Geography

Today's Google Slide can be found here - https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1jEZbWSE51YXCpZVPnB2Y3L1L47P_GGpuoB2YDSmTfJo/edit#slide=id.p

Today's lesson shows us how Africa as a continent can often be stereotyped. Most of the world portrays Africa as this land that needs saving and whose people are helpless. However, this isn't the case. While there are parts of some African nations where there are high rates of poverty, disease, famine and hardly any access to clean water, this isn't representative of the entire continent.

A city in Africa

There are many people who go about their daily lives in many countries in Africa just like you and I do. They live in houses, buy groceries, attend school, go to work and drive cars.

DATA, DATA AND MORE DATA

Guess what? Today we're going to be looking at how to interpret data. This is a vital skill for any student who wants to succeed, because it can be applied to absolutely any subject at school. But it doesn't just stop at school - data is everywhere!

And it's....

                  Why?

Well... I'm glad you asked.

Now for the good stuff...

Oh wait!

BREAKING NEWS!

This just in! Your next assessment requires you to interpret and use data. In a stunning turn of events, Mr Simon has just learnt that our next assessment is going to require you to think for yourself, understand and analyse information... you know, all the stuff that students are meant to do anyway.

Now let's all take a good look at this map and discuss it as a class.

Questions:

1. Name one country that receives an annual average temperature of 20 - 30 degrees celcius.

2. In which hemisphere are there predominantly colder temperatures?

3. Explain why a number of countries along the central line of the map receive very high temperatures (between 35-40)

4. Explain why some of the very northern countries on the map receive very low temperatures (-4 - 0)

5. Name a continent that has predominantly warm to hot temperatures.

6. What is the annual average temperature here in the U.A.E?
